The Avid Reader at the Tower is an independent bookstore. The Sacramento store was previously known as just The Avid Reader, located at 1003 L Street and owned solely by Stan Forbes. He went into partnership with his ex-wife Alzada Knickerbocker, owner of the 
The Avid Reader in Davis, to move the downtown store to a larger location vacated by Tower Books when it closed.
