Lavender Heights is the name of Sacramento's, midtown gay and lesbian neighborhood. Although it is not an legal municipality and there are no official boundaries denoting the neighborhood, there is little dispute that the intersection of 20th and K Streets is the heart and soul of Lavender Heights. It is around this intersection that Sacramento's premeir gay venues are found. These venues include Faces Night Club, The Depot, Headhunters Bar and Grill, and Badlands. The Mercantile is located a block South of the intersection and Sacramento's only Lesbian Bar, Club21, is located a block to the East. Also located nearby is the Sacramento location of the Hamburger Mary's restaurant/bar chain.
In addition to bars, Lavender Heights is also home to several gay owned businesses including the G Spot, an adult novelty store; McMartin Realty, Butch N Nellie's Coffee House; Hot Rod's Burgers; The Gifted Gardener; and the gift and novelty store Etc... .
Community resources for the LGBT community in the area include the Gay and Lesbian Center (formerly the Lambda Center) and the Lavender Library.
Lavender Heights appears in most printed maps of the area, Fodor's Guide to Sacramento and other reference materials. While not a municipal division, it is a long standing and well recognized name for the neighborhood.
