Old Sacramento is both a retail district and a [WWW]State Historic Park, developed during the gold rush era (1849 to 1855 or so). It can a great place to pick as a day trip if you have visitors that you are looking to entertain. There is the California State Railroad Museum, the Gold Rush History Center and a wide variety of shopping and dining destinations. Among the retailers are old-fashioned candy stores such as Sacramento Candy Co. and Candy Heaven, Evangeline's Costume Mansion, Candle Land, and Capital Ink Tattoo and Piercing. Eateries include the Pilothouse Restaurant, Joe's Crab Shack, Cantina del Rio, and Annabelle's. Old Town is home to Laughs Unlimited and Suspects Dinner Theatre. Horse-drawn carriage rides are an attraction unique to this historic NorCal sector. Special annual events include the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee, the Sacramento Blues Festival, Gold Rush Days, and the Pacific Rim Street Festival.

Directions

By Auto: Old Sacramento is located downtown and is convenient to reach by all freeways. From any direction take Interstate 5 to the J Street exit and follow the signs. Abundant covered parking at reasonable [WWW]rates is available. Enter at 3rd and J Streets or at Downtown Plaza and Front Streets. Also, there is limited, metered on-street parking.
