Slow Food, founded in Italy 1986, is an international organization whose aim is to protect the pleasures of the table from the homogenization of modern fast food and life. Through a variety of initiatives, it promotes gastronomic culture, develops taste education, conserves agricultural biodiversity and protects traditional foods at risk of extinction.
The movement now has over 80,000 members in over 100 countries.
Slow Food Sacramento is the Sacramento region’s chapter of this international movement. We are an active convivium that enjoys a wide range of educational and convivial events throughout the year.
In the past, we have enjoyed:
-
Heirloom tomato tasting
-
Seasonal meals created by local chefs at Sacramento restaurants
-
Farm Visits
-
Dinners on local farms
-
An educational evening with a local beekeeper
-
A “Night of Roots and Greens” at a local restaurant featuring a Capay Valley farmer and a well-known chef who teamed together to create a wonderful dinner comprised of farm-fresh roots and greens
-
A hoshi-gaki (dried persimmon) workshop
-
Fund raisers for local school gardens
-
An olive oil tasting and workshop
-
A wine sensory evaluation workshop
-
A traditional Chinese wedding banquet
-
A raw milk cheese tasting and workshop
… and much, much more!
We tend to have an event about every other month. Typically we have more events in the warm months and less in the colder months.
